hello!
I'm Whitney Chow and I'm a graduate from Academy of Art University in San Francisco, with an MFA in Animation and Visual Effects.
My decision to work in visual effects came later in life, as I was initially a pre-medical student. There were many reasons behind my shift to the world of film and VFX, but it was mainly my love for stories and the details that ensure effective storytelling on the big screen drove me to begin my journey at AAU.
The film that had inspired me the most was Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022), the perfect intersection of storytelling and technology. It made me realize that VFX wasn't just about the impressive creation of vibrant and realistic effects that can mimic reality, it was also about enhancing the narrative and providing a captivating experience. That pushed me to pursue the art of compositing, where I can have a hand at blending together visual style and impactful tales.
Since joining StudioX, a premiere program at the school that emulates a studio environment, I have been able to apply much of what I’ve learned to create pieces I never thought myself capable of. Working as a compositor, lighter, lead, and student associate VFX supervisor at the studio has pushed me to pursue my passions with even greater vigor and determination.
Art has the power to change lives, and I believe my story is a testament to that. My childhood dream of becoming a doctor stemmed from a desire to help others, but now, I believe I can still achieve that goal through the magic of movies.
